Alvear Palace is with no shadow of a doubt, the most traditional luxury hotel in Buenos Aires. Although I normally go for more contemporary hotels, I couldn’t resist booking my stay there, after seeing some good rates coming up online. It is located in the upmarket Recoleta neighbourhood with plenty of bars, restaurants and tourists attractions just a short walk. Recoleta is also one of the most European-like places in Buenos Aires. As soon as I got out of my cab, I was met by a very pleasant doorman, who communicated my arrival to the receptionists. It is impossible not to be impressed by the hotel interiors. This Leading Hotels of the World member was built in a 1930’s Louis XV-style building and its entire decoration still seems intact. After a very efficient check-in, the receptionist escorted me to my Deluxe Suite. She explained to me about the suite facilities, how to use the jacuzzi, the complimentary amenities, including water bottles and the ironing of one piece of garment, as well as regulating the air-conditioning about the hotel services. Among the services, I was most enthusiastic about the private butler, who soon rang my doorbell to unpack my suitcase and lay things out for me. Yes, I was in to be spoilt for a few nights! My Deluxe Suite My Deluxe Suite had the typical luxurious French-style decor that you can see in the rest of the hotel, with a predominant gold colour and a lot of antique artwork. The suite had a separate bedroom and a sitting room, where I had a large couch, a working desk, a dining table, armchairs and with many other items, like the TV, hidden in wooden cupboard that would better suit the rest of the room. Just like the sitting room, my bedroom has quite large, with a super comfy king-size bed. The bathroom, which had Hermès toiletries, was also very nicely decorated with a lot of beige and marble walls and surfaces. Being a more traditional luxury hotel, it attracts a more mature clientele, something I noticed when I went for a drink in the martini bar. Even if the hotel is not to your taste, I highly recommend stopping by at the bar, where you will find a vast drinks menu and very friendly and efficient service. Breakfast is served at l’Orangerie restaurant and their breakfast buffet is simply enormous, with a very good offering of hot and cold dishes, also with a very efficient team of waiters. Final Thoughts In my experience, Alvear Palace delivered in every aspect. Every single detail at the hotel was very well thought. I believe their housekeeping team has a lot of work to do, dealing with so much furniture, decoration and so on, but my suite and the hotel itself were both spotlessly clean. Their service standards are very high, meeting my already high expectations – after all, it is a very iconic hotel in the Argentinean capital. The members of staff I dealt with were all very helpful, pleasant and very professional. Oh, I must say I could easily get used to having my personal butler, thanks to their idea. You don’t go to a top luxury hotel to save money, but you don’t want to be ripped off either. And in terms of value, I think the hotel is offer tremendous value for the market they propose with work with.
